The Government of São Tomé and Príncipe validated today, May 8, 2026, its Integrated Financing Strategy for Sustainable Development, reinforcing the national commitment to a more effective, integrated, and sustainable mobilization of resources.

Aligned with the Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF), the National Strategy for Sustainable Development 2026–2040, and national climate priorities, the Strategy represents an important step in mobilizing public and private resources in support of sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The event brought together representatives of the Government, the United Nations System, international partners, civil society, and the private sector, promoting a high-level dialogue on financing mechanisms for sustainable development in the country.

The debate panel included the participation of the Minister of State for Economy and Finance, the Minister of Environment, Youth and Sustainable Tourism, the Resident Representative of the International Monetary Fund, and the Country Manager of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé and Príncipe. A high-level panel discussed the theme: “How to leverage financing for sustainable development in São Tomé and Príncipe?”
During the session, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme highlighted: “This Strategy is not just a document, but a testimony to the visionary leadership of São Tomé and Príncipe, its technical rigor, and its commitment to aligning financial flows with national priorities.”

The closing session, chaired by the Prime Minister and Head of Government, reaffirmed the national commitment to the implementation of the Strategy and to strengthening a more integrated and results-oriented financing architecture. In his remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized: “This strategy is our sovereign response to an uncertain world. São Tomé and Príncipe is the only country in the world whose entire territory is recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Our forests, our marine ecosystems, our biodiversity; these are not resources to be sacrificed for short-term growth. They are the engine and the foundation of our development.”

With this validation, São Tomé and Príncipe takes a decisive step to transform its vision into concrete action, mobilizing resources and partnerships for a sustainable and resilient future.
